Pork has a lot going for it! Not only is it easy to prepare and extremely versatile, but pork also is a lean, healthy option that won’t break your budget. In the spirit of National Pork Month, why not celebrate this all-American value with a pork party for friends or family?
Below you can find a few tips guaranteed to make your next celebration a hog wild one. And, this month be sure to check out The Write Spot, a blog written by pal of pork Anne Marie Nichols, for a chance to win an official “Pork Party Pack” that includes free pork and more to get your party started!
- Buy pork in bulk so you have plenty on-hand to cook up for parties thrown on-the-fly. For example, extra ground pork can be frozen and then used in the future for quick appetizer meatballs or burgers on the grill.
- You don’t have to live high on the hog to throw a good fest. Plan a delicious menu that doesn’t cost a lot by choosing recipes that use value cuts of pork (think chops, roast, ribs) and just a few ingredients, like Italian Sunday Porchetta or individual Pork Pot Pies.
- One way to stay mindful of what you’re buying is to use a reusable shopping bag instead of a cart or basket at the store. The bag will hold enough for your party menu, but not any “impulse” purchases. Plus, it helps the environment!
- Get into the spirit of the occasion with themed invites and tableware. For example, the Pork Store has pork placemats for just five cents apiece, as well as balloons and placemats.
