About The Farm: Family owned and operated for 23 years, the Keller farm has 15 sows and raises all of their own pigs from birth. The farm also sells farm fresh eggs and small amounts of fresh produce to members of their community. Alicia says, “Living in an area of New York State where agriculture is still a major industry, it is exciting for us to spread the message about the power of agriculture and the impact that it makes on our world each and every day!”

What inspires your family? Tradition, quality and the faces behind the product inspire my family in the kitchen. I was raised and continue to believe in comfort food, meat and potatoes cooking and I would not have it any other way. While I enjoy trying new things, I think it’s good to have an old favorite that reminds you of simpler times in life. We enjoy fresh food that is prepared with integrity and passion – and that brings us around the table to share time together and take a break from our busy lives.

What do you think is the number one misconception about pork producers? I believe that one of the many misconceptions about pork producers is our image. Many people picture the television show Green Acres and think that is pork production today. Today’s pigs are raised by pork producers who have dedicated their life to providing for the best in health, well-being and safety of their animals and about the safety of the food they produce.

What is one interesting/intriguing fact about you and/or your farm? I am a student at Purdue University studying agriculture economics and agriculture communications. To help educate the public about pork production, I write a pork column in my local paper. I hope to one day make a difference in the pork industry and to help prepare future leaders in the pork industry I serve on the National Junior Swine Association Junior Board.
